26 day writing challenge-day 23 'Wisdom'

 Write a parable-short story with a lesson

The parable of the wayward hiker.

There was a group of friends on a quest to see a magical waterfall.  In order to reach this waterfall and capture all the beauty, one had to go early in the morning on the phase of the moon that allowed its light to shine on the waterfall in a way  that made it iridescent and most beautiful.   The group would have to get as close as they could to the waterfall and camp overnight then continue the rest of their journey early in the morning.  They were given 3 sources of  light to help them  navigate the dark forest-  a flashlight, a lighter, and a glowstick.

One friend awoke in his tent before the rest of the party.  He took the opportunity start the hike on his own so he can be the first one there.  He carried his 3 sources of light with him.   After some time the flashlight ran out of batteries and the lighter stopped working. He only had the glowstick, but that must have been broken because it did not glow.  It would be hours before the sun came up or the light would see its way in the deep of this dark forest.   It was so dark he had nothing left to do but stay where he was and wait.   The noises of the unknown around him only intensified his fear.   Finally he could see some lights dancing in the distance.  It was the rest of the party.  He was glad to see them and when they reached him they asked him why he didn't use his glow stick.   He told them it didn't work and handed it to one of the friends.  The other friend snapped it and gave it back.  Now it worked.    The party finally reached the waterfall and it was more beautiful than he imagined.  When they went back to the camp, he held on to that  glowstick and the light never went out for the rest of the journey.

Ambition without guidance will leave you lost and lonely.
